“The Sleeping Beauty of Space”

In "The Sleeping Beauty of Space," Jimmy stumbles upon futuristic spectacles that reveal glimpses of the future—specifically, a vision of his own drowning. Determined to avoid the fate he’s seen, he stays far from water on the day it’s supposed to happen, only to be taken there by Superman anyway. What follows is a surprising twist: Superman wants Jimmy to star in a "safety first" film about drowning dangers, turning the prophecy into a lesson. Written by Otto Binder and illustrated by Curt Swan with inks by Ray Burnley, this 1958 adventure blends sci-fi foresight with a classic superhero twist. The cover, by Howard Purcell, captures the story’s mysterious tone.

Jimmy accidentally gets hold of spectacles from a scientific villain, and finds out that they can show the future. One of the visions he sees shows his death from drowning. Trying to avoid that fate, on the fateful day he makes sure he is not going to be where the vision shows he will drown; just to have Superman take him there anyway. But then he finds out Superman wants him to be an actor in a "safety first" film about the dangers of drowning.
