"Hit the Dirt!" follows soldiers who encounter Miss Cerabella, a woman at a Yokohama base, and become involved in a dangerous situation when she is revealed to be a spy or saboteur, leading to combat action against enemy forces. "Canteen Kate" depicts the adventures of a female servicemember in wartime operations. Additional stories titled "Leatherneck Jack" and others document various combat encounters and military operations during the Korean conflict, emphasizing the action and danger faced by Marines in theater.
Leatherneck Jack volunteers for a dangerous intelligence mission when Marine Sergeant Jack Rogers is asked to smuggle himself hidden in an ox-drawn cart into enemy territory alongside Miss Hi, a skilled U.N. intelligence agent disguised as a refugee. As they approach the Red-held town under cover of an aerial bombardment, Jack must navigate checkpoints and unexpected encounters while searching for a concealed enemy supply dump. The mission tests both his combat instincts and his trust in his partner as they push deeper into hostile ground.
Two Marines, Barnes and Walsh, are tasked with delivering a message to Captain Jones at Chin Jon by three o'clock—but denied the jeep by their sergeant, they're forced to march on foot. When they arrive early and spot a river, they decide to finally get clean after weeks of grime, only to find themselves caught in the middle of a surprise enemy attack and occupation of the town. Thinking fast, the pair locate a cache of dynamite and improvise a desperate plan to take down an enemy tank and turn the tide of the battle.
Canteen Kate sets her sights on getting a new Quonset hut for her base quarters, but when she hatches a scheme involving the visiting actress Cerabella and a borrowed glamorous gown, her clever plan takes a wildly unexpected turn. What starts as a calculated deal with a supply officer spirals into a comedy of mistaken identity that puts Kate in hot water with the General himself. Can Kate talk her way out of trouble, or has her scheming finally caught up with her?
After a plane crash forces Sgt. Tripoli Shores and Pvt. Arkansas Woods ashore in the Philippine jungle, the two discharged Marines find themselves caught between escape and duty when they stumble upon other survivors under attack by Huk guerrillas. Separated and imprisoned by the Communist insurgents, Tripoli and Arkansas must fight their way through an overwhelming force to free their fellow captives and survive the jungle—all while wrestling with whether their war is truly over. This hard-hitting war story pits two gritty Marines against impossible odds in the heart of enemy territory.
