Lt. John D. Bulkeley commands small, fast patrol torpedo boats—"Mosquitoes"—under General MacArthur's command in the Philippines, and when word comes of Japanese shipping in Subic Bay, he seizes the chance to prove his unconventional tactics in combat. Racing through enemy fire with his crew and Ensign Cox, Bulkeley closes on a massive Japanese vessel and delivers a torpedo strike that lights up the bay—but his greatest test comes weeks later when he must guide MacArthur himself through treacherous enemy waters to Australia aboard his tiny boats.
