This issue contains multiple crime and suspense stories. "Greed" depicts a ruthless lumberman in the Canadian Northwest who attempts to seize control of land from John T. Hammond, only to have his greed and refusal to share lead to his downfall. Another story follows Jerry Dennis, a diver whose partnership with Pete is threatened when Jerry's high blood pressure forces him to stop diving, leading to tension between the two former wartime partners. A third story chronicles Ralph's marriage to Elaine, which begins blissfully during their honeymoon but deteriorates as Ralph grows to resent his wife, ultimately leading to a scheme involving Elaine's cousin Shelia that ends in Ralph losing his fortune and both women turning against him.

Cary Williams takes his new job as a city building inspector seriously—too seriously, perhaps—when he discovers that Wilson School is a genuine danger to its students, with crumbling stairs and faulty fire escapes that could spell disaster. But when his urgent report gets buried by indifferent superiors and powerful interests, Williams faces an impossible choice between exposing the truth and protecting his own family's future. A gripping tale of conscience, corruption, and the price of doing the right thing in a city where money talks louder than safety.

Ralph Olcott is a smooth-talking card shark living off his family name and his luck at the tables—until he marries the wealthy but deaf Elaine, hoping to solve his money troubles. When boredom and resentment set in, Ralph and Elaine's cousin Shelia hatch a sinister plot to eliminate his inconvenient wife, but Elaine's disability may prove to be far more of an advantage than anyone anticipated.
