Warren Ellis and Ben Templesmith's crime series Fell hits its third issue with a cover that makes an immediate, unsettling impression: a close-up of what appears to be a bundle of dynamite sticks — orange and black, strapped together — gripped by a gloved hand, with a ghostly, desaturated street scene hovering in the upper half of the image. Templesmith's murky, atmospheric rendering drains the color from everything except that alarming bundle, drawing the eye straight to the threat. At $1.99, this remains one of the more deliberately designed crime comics Image was putting out in 2005.
