"Big Top" by Ed Wheelan follows Hal Carruthers, who appears in a stateroom and later prepares for a thrilling high-wire slide performance at a circus, with the story continuing in the next issue. "Lala Palooza" by Rose Goldberg presents a Christmas-themed story where Vincent uses a device to help make children happy during the holidays, with characters including Babette and Aristopolis. "Strange as It Seems" by John Hix offers historical oddities and curiosities, including facts about a human tugboat competition, a baseball record, Alexander the Great's regrettable advice, and Shakespeare's theatrical history.
Sgt. Jim Reynolds of the RCMP is dispatched to Chinook Valley to keep peace among snowbound Indians facing starvation, but a murder—a local man named Aku stabbed with a knife—threatens to ignite unrest just as tensions run highest. When Reynolds discovers the blade belongs to a young brave and traces a strand of hair to a half-breed named Mosgah, he sets out to track the real killer, uncovering a secret mountain pass that could save the starving people. What Reynolds doesn't expect is that his hunt will lead him face-to-face with John Barr, the escaped convict he's been ordered to find.
