In the shadow of a fallen knight, young Brian Kent—now an orphan and heir to a throne he cannot claim—faces a trial by fire. Trained harshly by the gruff Sir Grot and haunted by the memory of his father’s dishonored death, Brian ventures into the Forest Perilous to retrieve the wild hawk Slasher. There, he discovers a suit of armor bearing a hawk emblem, dons it in silence, and defends a girl from would-be captors, using the hawk’s fury to strike fear into his foes. When he leaves the armor behind, the castle erupts in whispers about the mysterious Silent Knight—unknown to all, the boy who once was just a squire.
