In "Johnny Hotwire utenfor loven," the Fantomet revisits a pivotal chapter from his past, recalling his days as the outlaw biker Johnny Hotwire. Riding across America on a motorcycle, he forms a bond with Deck Davey, leader of the relatively peaceful Hell Dogs, before a violent clash with the rival Death Gamblers forces a desperate heist that ends in tragedy. Years later, holding a letter left behind, the Fantomet decides to reclaim his old identity and set out once more—this time not as a masked hero, but as the outlaw he once was.
