Margaret's stepmother accepts an invitation from her wealthy nephew for them to come visit him, but she suffers a stroke on the ship and dies when they arrive. While staying in Helmsdal, Margaret learns that her host's first love had drowned in the fjord. Later she is injured in a car accident and is surprised when her host proposes to her in the hospital. She accepts his proposal because she had been secretly falling for him, but he is cold toward her because he suspects her of loving another man as his first love had before she drowned.
