At Feodore's engagement party, her best friend's brother recognizes her fiance as someone he knew from his R.A.F. days. The day after the engagement party, her fiance leaves without a word to go to London. Feodore follows him to London and he seems happy to see her, but is defensive when she tries to ask why he left. Once he had been recognized, he had been afraid that she would learn his secret. He had tricked a native girl in Burma into marrying him and had a child with her. When he left, the girl had killed herself.
