Anouk Ricard's Faits divers #2 from Éditions Cornélius opens with a wonderfully deadpan cover scene: against a bright pink background, a lineup of anthropomorphic characters — including a suited duck in a fedora and a stocky dog with a briefcase — stand near a lone toilet, with small brown lumps scattered on the floor. It's the kind of absurdist, matter-of-fact humor that Ricard delivers with such a clean, cartoonish line. A perfect slice of the offbeat world this 2017 series has to offer.
