Fairy Tale Parade #3
In "Rip Van Winkle," a 1942 Dell comic, Walt Kelly's distinctive art brings a classic tale to life with quiet charm and subtle menace. The story follows Mother Goat as she leaves her seven kids at home, only to return and discover a wolf has tricked his way in and devoured six of them. Kelly’s expressive pencils and inks capture the tension and relief of the moment, delivering a timeless fable with a satisfying, if slightly surreal, resolution.

Mother Goat goes to the market leaving her seven kids at home. A wolf tricks his way into the house and eats six of the kids before retiring to the woods. Mother Goat returns home and learns of what happened from the surviving kid. Mother Goat then finds the wolf, opens his stomach, rescues the six kids, and places rocks in the wolf's stomach so that he still feels full. Mother Goat and her seven kids then live happily ever after.
