History

Exceptional X-Men was announced at the SXSW 2024 'Future of Marvel Comics' X-Men panel by Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski and newly appointed X-Men Group Editor Tom Brevoort — who replaced Jordan White in that role specifically because, per Brevoort, mutant characters were gaining greater importance to Marvel Studios and warranted a more senior editorial hand. The series launched September 4, 2024 as one of three flagship titles in the 'X-Men: From the Ashes' initiative (alongside Jed MacKay's X-Men and Gail Simone's Uncanny X-Men), with sociologist and author Eve L. Ewing writing and Marvel Stormbreaker Carmen Carnero on art throughout; Carnero had previously worked on Captain Marvel, X-Men Red, and Hellions.
