A dungeon tableau sets an ominous tone for "Treasures of Britain" — a pink-haired hero is locked in wooden stocks on her knees while a looming, long-bearded sorcerer in blue robes brandishes a gnarled staff above her. Behind them, several captives hang chained from the ceiling, a pale woman in red looks on, and an anthropomorphic pig reads a book by candlelight in the corner — a wonderfully strange detail that reminds you exactly what kind of book Excalibur is. Mahmud Asrar's cover crackles with atmosphere, and with Tini Howard writing and Marcus To on interior art, this 2021 issue promises the series' signature blend of Arthurian mysticism and mutant drama at its most compelling.
