“After the Bomb”

Ian Churchill's cover for issue #102 captures the full Excalibur roster in urgent, kinetic motion — Captain Britain leading the charge in his red-and-blue uniform, Meggan and a purple dragon visible above, while Shadowcat, a dark-haired figure wreathed in flame-like energy, and a brown-haired woman in yellow-and-black tumble forward against a stark blue background. The sweeping energy slashes tearing across the composition give the whole image a real sense of impact and danger, perfectly fitting the "After the Bomb" story title. Warren Ellis and the artistic team bring a mid-'90s Marvel energy to Britain's mightiest mutant team that still holds up well.
