Event Horizon: Dark Descent #1

The cover of this first issue from IDW sets an immediately unsettling tone: a colossal, cracked stone face dominates the left half, threaded with red veins and bearing a single glowing crimson eye, while against a blood-red sky a lone spacesuited figure tumbles helplessly through a bolt of lightning above a looming rocky mass — the scale and isolation together feel genuinely unnerving. Cover artist Jeffrey Alan Love's stark, textured palette of ash-grey and deep red does a lot of heavy lifting, giving the whole image a dread-soaked, almost painterly weight. With Christian Ward writing and Tristan Jones on interior art, Event Horizon: Dark Descent #1 arrives in 2025 as a mature-rated sci-fi horror launch that clearly isn't interested in going easy on its readers.
