Etranges Aventures #20
In "Le monde sous la mer," the Challengers face their most bizarre threat yet when a tiki-mask-wearing criminal known as Mr. Voodoo strikes an art gallery, only to vanish—leaving behind a robot spider that stows away on their jet. After the spider returns to Mr. Voodoo, who’s actually Multi-Man in disguise, the villain uses a detailed diagram of Challenger Mountain to launch a full-scale assault with a swarm of insect robots. The team’s new machine and a surprise from Prof’s lab turn the tide in this high-stakes showdown, all drawn with sharp precision by Bob Brown and inked with dynamic flair. The cover, a striking piece by Howard Purcell, captures the eerie tension of the underwater world that looms in the story’s title.

The Challengers rush to an art gallery being robbed by Mr. Voodoo, a walking tiki mask, but he escapes. A robot spider boards their jet, accompanies them back to Challenger Mountain, photographs the mountain HQ, and returns to Mr. Voodoo, who is Multi-Man in disguise. Multi-Man creates a diagram of Challenger Mountain and follows the Challs back to their HQ, where the guys are testing a new machine. Multi-Man leads a robot army of insects against the Challs, but Prof releases a tse-tse fly and Multi-Man panics, allowing Prof to use the new machine to materialize a condor to grab Multi-Man.
