“A Mirror for Mortality!”

The opening shot of this 1985 twelve-issue limited series announces itself with real confidence — a blond Eternal in a blue-and-red lightning-bolt costume surges forward with fist raised, while panels on either side tease a green-clad woman and suited man, a hulking armored figure, and a snarling mass of Deviant creatures below. The cover tagline says it plainly: "The Battle Begins — Deviants versus the gods who walk among us!" Walter Simonson's cover art gives the whole thing a bold, kinetic energy that makes this premise — ancient, godlike beings drawn into open conflict — feel genuinely urgent from the very first page.
