Erasmus in Europa #[nn]
Published by Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam in 2009, this Dutch comics album by writers René Leisink and Rob Derks — with art, inks, and lettering by Rob Derks — brings the life of the great Renaissance humanist to the sequential-art page. The cover, drawn and inked by Rob Derks, sets the scene in a lively medieval streetscape: three stern-faced clerics in black robes (one clutching a stack of books adorned with a golden cross) eye a red-bearded man in a blue tunic who gestures pointedly at a richly dressed figure draped in golden finery, all framed by stone archways, half-timbered buildings, and a Gothic church tower rising in the background. A portrait poster bearing the name "Erasmus" is pinned to the wall, anchoring the whole scene to its scholarly subject and promising an adventure full of period intrigue.
