Empyre: Avengers #3

The penultimate issue of this 2020 Empyre tie-in miniseries closes in on a masked, sword-wielding hero — armored and determined — slashing through a nightmarish tangle of dark, thorned vines that seem to close in from every direction, with fallen figures barely visible in the chaos below. Paul Renaud's cover composition does a fine job of conveying both the physical danger and the sheer grit required to push through it. With Jim Zub writing and Carlos Magno on interior art, colored by Espen Grundetjern, this issue brings the Empyre crossover energy right to the Avengers' doorstep.
