Elsje #2
Elsje — the cheerful, red-shirted girl at the heart of this Dutch comics series — takes center stage on Gerben Valkema's cover in the most delightful way imaginable: she's displayed under a glass museum dome, grinning and waving, flanked by classical sculptures including a Venus de Milo–style figure and an Egyptian artifact wall. The subtitle Een uniek exemplaar ("A unique specimen") says it all, framing Elsje herself as the museum's star attraction. With writer Eric Hercules and Valkema's crisp, expressive linework bringing her to life in this 2013 edition from Don Lawrence Collection, it's a wonderfully playful package for fans of all ages.
