Elephantmen #8 (March 2007) draws you in immediately with José Ladrönn and Rob Steen's moody cover: a zebra-headed humanoid in a pinstripe suit and tie sits hunched in a dimly lit, cluttered room, light filtering through venetian blinds as he contemplates something unseen. The tagline "In the Kingdom of the Blind, the One-Eyed Man Is King" sets a brooding, noir tone perfectly suited to Richard Starkings and Moritat's ongoing Tales from Mystery City & the World of Hip Flask. It's a compelling snapshot of Image's most thoughtfully atmospheric series of its era.
