The Road to the Erdtree began serialization on September 4, 2022 in Kadokawa's free web magazine COMIC Hu (also known as ComicWalker), making it the first comic series set in the Elden Ring universe. Nikiichi Tobita — previously known for gag works like Shinobigataki and A Cursed Sword's Daily Life — pitched a comedy approach and has noted publicly that he was surprised FromSoftware approved the comedic angle, with the understanding that the humor should not undermine the game's core setting or lore. Yen Press handled simultaneous English-language publication alongside editions in eleven other languages, and the first English-language physical volume arrived on May 23, 2023; Volume 4 followed on October 15, 2024. The English edition credits John Neal as translator and Greg Deng as letterer, with FromSoftware Inc. listed as original story author alongside Tobita's art.
