Edge of Spider-Verse #1
Edge of Spider-Verse (2022) #1 opens the second volume of Marvel's anthology series designed to onboard readers into the End of the Spider-Verse event, functioning as the direct creative heir to the 2014 series that introduced Spider-Gwen and Peni Parker to the world. The issue delivers two confirmed first appearances — Spider-Laird (Donald MacGargan of Earth-1740, an 18th-century Scottish spider-totem) and Spider-Rex (Pter Ptarker of Earth-66, a dinosaur origin-story parody) — both of whom went on to play roles in the larger End of the Spider-Verse storyline and its sequel anthology Bleeding Edge. It also restores Anya Corazon to her Araña identity with a redesigned costume, repositioning a long-underutilized character as a central player in the Spider-Army. Editorially, the issue marks Dan Slott's return to Spider-Verse mythology — the franchise he helped build — now framed as its intended conclusion.

In May 2022, Marvel announced that Dan Slott would helm what the publisher billed as the final Spider-Verse story, End of the Spider-Verse. The five-issue anthology miniseries Edge of Spider-Verse launched in August 2022 as its lead-in, structured around multiple creative teams contributing self-contained stories per issue, with Slott writing an overarching connective narrative across the run. Issue #1 shipped August 3, 2022, with stories by Dan Slott (art: Martin Coccolo), Alex Segura (art: Caio Majado), Karla Pacheco (art: Pere Pérez), and Dustin Weaver with D.J. Bryant; cover art was provided by Josemaria Casanovas.
