In "Kapplöpning med döden," aspiring reporter Gilbert Smith is rejected by Cobbs old newspaper—only to be kidnapped by the escaped convict Whitney Rugo. Forced into a deadly game, Gilbert must use his wits to save lives, including several people from a botulism threat, as the clock ticks and danger closes in.
