Echo Vol. 1 kicks off in March 2000 with "Chapter 1: Strangers Among Us," and the cover immediately signals that this Image series has serious style to spare. Long Vo's artwork packs the image with a striking ensemble — a central figure rappelling down a rope, flanked by armed combatants on either side, while a dark-haired woman dominates the foreground and a ghostly face shimmers in a translucent background overlay, all rendered in a moody green-tinted palette by colorist Charles Park.
