Earth 2 #5
This volume collects the final story arc of DC's Earth 2 series set in The New 52 continuity, as the world's remaining Wonders confront the arrival of a powerful Kryptonian. The narrative follows the fractured society of Earth 2 as it faces an existential threat from a being connected to Superman's legacy, forcing Batman, Wonder Woman, and other heroes to make desperate choices. Written by Tom Taylor with art by Nicola Scott and others, this collection includes issues #27-32 of the series.
In "The Kryptonian, Part 1," Lois Lane reunites with Superman as he takes her to Smallville to meet his parents—only for that moment to be shattered when he reveals the location of the other heroes to Bedlam. The resulting attack brings sudden violence, with Red Arrow falling in the assault while Batman and Green Lantern are left at odds over how to respond. Written by Tom Taylor and illustrated by Nicola Scott, with inks by Trevor Scott and colors by Pete Pantazis, this pivotal issue features a striking cover by J. G. Jones.
In the aftermath of global devastation on the former Amazon island, Commander Khan and Dodds face the wreckage of the World Army, while the elite flee Earth aboard a colossal space ark—only to meet a grim end. When Bedlam discovers that Sloan has been concealing a Kryptonian, the fragile balance of survival begins to unravel.
In "The Kryptonian, Part 2," Lois and Kendra guide Val through the challenges of mastering his Kryptonian abilities, but their training is interrupted when Superman arrives—only to confront a version of his wife he no longer recognizes, setting the stage for a deeply personal and emotionally charged encounter.
In "The Kryptonian, Part 3," Lois and Superman reunite under urgent circumstances, leading him to take her to Smallville to meet his parents. The visit takes a dark turn when Superman inadvertently reveals the whereabouts of the other heroes to Bedlam, triggering a brutal assault by the Warhound. As Red Arrow falls in the attack, tension flares between Batman and Green Lantern over how to respond.
In "The Kryptonian, Part 4," Hawkgirl and Green Lantern race to save Flash from the Beguiler’s twisted experiments, while Batman and his team find themselves stranded in Amazonia—where old tensions flare as Batman holds Val responsible for Red Arrow’s fate.
In "The Kryptonian, Part 5," Superman’s fragile peace in Smallville shatters when a dinner with his family erupts in tragedy, forcing him to confront a darkness within. As the two Supermen—Kal-El and Val-Zod—stand on the brink of collision, the weight of legacy and identity hangs in the air.
In "The Kryptonian, Part 6," Lois and Val-Zod confront a shocking truth as their battle with Kal-El reveals he’s not the real Superman—but a flawed imitation. With Apokolips repelled and the Boom Tube sealed, the remnants of Bedlam begin to reassemble, leaving the fate of Earth 2 uncertain.
In the near-future dystopia of Earth 2, Michael Holt and Sonia Sato take desperate action to undermine Terry Sloan’s growing control, navigating a world where the once-great heroes have fallen or vanished. With the odds stacked against them, their fight for justice becomes a fragile spark in a system built on silence.
