E.V.E. Protomecha #4

The cover of this 2000 Top Cow/Image series puts the size disparity in vivid perspective: a massive, predatory mech-creature dominates the foreground, its red-and-purple armored body and glowing blue maw aimed squarely at a comparatively tiny armored figure — E.V.E. herself — who stands her ground in a fiery desert landscape. Alé Garza's pencils and Marlo Alquiza's inks give both combatants a sleek, kinetic energy that makes the confrontation feel genuinely tense. Issue #4 of E.V.E. Protomecha is a strong showcase for what this series does best: big mechanical threats and a lone hero who looks ready to take them on anyway.
