About this Issue

Dune: House Corrino #3 (May 29, 2024) is the narrative hinge of BOOM! Studios' concluding chapter in its multi-year comic adaptation of the entire Prelude to Dune trilogy — the first time the 2001 novel Dune: House Corrino, itself drawn from Frank Herbert's own posthumous notes, had ever been adapted into sequential art. Within the series arc, this issue is where the smoldering tensions of the opening two chapters erupt into overt violence: Tyros Reffa, the Emperor's secret half-brother, makes his failed assassination attempt against Shaddam Corrino IV at the Imperial Opera House on Kaitain, a pivotal scene that sets the clock running on every power structure in the Imperium. Simultaneously, the Bene Gesserit's moves to suppress Chobyn's invisible-spacecraft technology, the Fremen's brutal punishment of the merchant Rondo Tuek by Stilgar, and the continuing surveillance of Lady Jessica's pregnancy all converge, making issue #3 the point at which the series' many interlocking subplots first collide into a single, propulsive momentum toward the events of Frank Herbert's original Dune.

History

The series was formally announced in February 2024 and launched in March 2024, deliberately timed to coincide with the theatrical release of Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two, capitalizing on a period of peak mainstream Dune interest. Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson — the same co-authors who wrote the original 2001 novel, which itself debuted at #8 on the New York Times Best Seller list and drew on notes Frank Herbert left at his death — personally scripted the comic adaptation, continuing a partnership with BOOM! Studios that had already produced a 12-issue House Atreides series (2020–2021) and a 12-issue House Harkonnen series (2023). Simone Ragazzoni, who had previously worked on Power Rangers Universe for the same publisher, handled interior art, joined by colorist Dan Jackson and letterer Ed Dukeshire, with Lea Caballero credited as an additional artist specifically on issue #3. The series also carried additional artistic weight on its covers: Raymond Swanland (known for Magic: The Gathering) provided the main cover for #3, with variant covers by Veronica Fish, Justine Florentino, and Jahnoy Lindsey.
