From creator Jens K comes Dunce: Presque l'Apocalypse, the second volume in this charming Franco-Belgian series published by 404 éditions. The cover sets a wonderfully deadpan tone: two odd, big-eared figures in matching khaki parkas stand in the snow gazing upward — one tall, one small — while a wide-eyed black-and-white dog sits nearby, equally transfixed by whatever looms above. There's something quietly funny and oddly moving about this trio facing what the subtitle promises is "almost the apocalypse," and Jens K's loose, expressive linework makes you want to follow them wherever the snow leads.
