The third volume of Hermann and Yves H.'s Western series Duke carries a title that suits its cover perfectly — "Ik ben een schaduw" ("I Am a Shadow") — and Hermann's painterly artwork delivers exactly that mood: a lone, dark-clad rider on horseback receding into a rain-drenched teal twilight, pistol in hand, hat pulled low against the storm. Hermann's cover work here is quietly stunning, all atmosphere and silhouette, the figure dissolving into the wet gloom like a ghost on horseback. Published by Le Lombard in 2018, this is moody, rain-soaked Western storytelling at its most visually assured.
