The third volume of Miki Mākasu and Oto-San's Double.me arrives with one of the series' most quietly unsettling covers yet — a dark-haired young woman in a school uniform cradles a crumbling, darkened skull in both hands, her face drawn close to it in an almost mournful, intimate gesture. The skull itself is fragmenting at the edges, dissolving into dust and debris against a worn, rust-toned background that gives the whole image a haunting, elegiac weight. Published by Ankama in 2019, this volume makes a strong visual case that Double.me is a series unafraid to sit with darkness and complexity.
