“Brick by Brick, Part 4: I'm Sorry I'm Late”

Part of DC's Young Animal imprint, this March 2017 issue of Gerard Way and Nick Derington's Doom Patrol delivers one of the more surreal fast-food scenes you'll find in superhero comics. The cover — rendered with Derington's crisp, expressive line work and colored beautifully by Tamra Bonvillain — features a yellow robot in a fast-food uniform cheerfully presenting a tray with a burger, fries, and a cup, flanked by a pink brain-like creature with a spatula, a one-eyed green figure, and a red lizard-like coworker, all wearing matching yellow crew uniforms. It's the kind of wonderfully strange image that captures exactly why Doom Patrol under the Young Animal banner felt like nothing else on the shelf in 2017.
