Doom Patrol #12

DC's Young Animal imprint takes the Doom Patrol somewhere delightfully strange with issue #12, subtitled Into the Daemonscape — framed here as "A Quest for Adventurers Levels 16–20." Nick Derington's cover reimagines members of the Reynolds family as fantasy-RPG adventurers — a young hooded figure clutching a glowing orb, an archer in golden armor, and a sword-wielding warrior — facing down a massive, snarling demon looming from the shadows. It's a wonderfully inventive visual concept that captures everything Gerard Way and Jeremy Lambert's Young Animal era does best: finding the surreal heart hiding inside a familiar genre.
