This December 1947 Fawcett issue sets the stage for a genuinely eerie maritime adventure, as the cover promises Don Winslow's encounter with "The Ghost of the Fishing Ships!" At the helm of his vessel, a determined naval officer grips the ship's wheel while an enormous green-skinned, red-eyed specter looms menacingly out of the smoke and flames above a fleet of stricken fishing boats on a moonlit sea. It's a wonderfully atmospheric piece of mid-century comics storytelling that captures the pulpy thrill of nautical mystery at its most vivid.
