Don Winslow leads his naval forces in a battle against the Japanese near Maipan Island, where American planes engage enemy bombers and his ship faces off against superior Japanese forces including two battleships and five destroyers. After successfully disabling one enemy battleship, Winslow pursues a suspicious freighter and boards the captured vessel, discovering enemy soldiers hiding below deck and uncovering what appears to be a sabotage plot threatening American supply operations.
