While investigating a mysterious Nazi officer's cap found on the island, they discover evidence of a Nazi tunnel being dug beneath the English Channel to support an invasion. Don works with the British Navy to devise a plan involving a helicopter-based commando raid against Norwegian guerrillas who have been aiding the Nazis, with the goal of reaching the hidden hideout in the Norwegian coastal mountains where the patriots have retreated.
Don Winslow and his pal Red accept a job filming a wartime propaganda picture for the Office of War Information, but what starts as a straightforward movie project becomes a deadly trap when Nazi agents pose as film crew members and rig a real torpedo to kill them on set. The two sailors must fight for their lives when their enemies attempt to use the movie itself as the perfect cover for murder.
Three newspaper correspondents arrive on Tawaki Island to document the Marines' hard-won victory, only to discover that the battle is far from over when Japanese forces emerge from a hidden underground network. Don Winslow, on special duty with the Marines, must uncover the enemy's secret stronghold and hold the line before a massive counterattack can overwhelm the island's small defensive garrison. As the press witnesses firsthand the cunning and ruthlessness of their adversary, they learn exactly why Winslow is rated the Marine Corps' ace troubleshooter.
Don and Red patrol the English Channel as U.S. Coast Guard observers attached to the Royal Navy, but a mysterious freak storm and a Nazi officer's cap washed ashore set them on the trail of something far more sinister than rough seas. When reconnaissance photos reveal German soldiers digging beneath the Channel itself, the two Americans race to alert British intelligence—only to discover that danger has already infiltrated the highest ranks. With a Nazi invasion tunneling toward England and time running out, Don and Red must find a way to stop a catastrophe that could change the course of the war.
Commander Don Winslow and his partner Red are sent to resupply Norwegian guerrillas—the Patriots—hiding in a mountain cave before a crucial commando raid against Nazi-occupied territory. But when they arrive, the resistance fighters reveal devastating news: a traitor in their midst has betrayed the raid's details to the enemy, and their helicopter has been sabotaged. Now Don and Red must escape down a treacherous Norwegian mountainside and race through hostile territory to reach the British fleet in time to stop the raid before the commandos walk into a Nazi trap.
