Dogs of War #[nn]
In "Boots," young Henry finds unexpected companionship in his rambunctious new puppy, Bouncer, until a quiet Vietnam veteran named Lanford steps in to help train him. As the two form an unlikely bond, Lanford quietly shares memories of his time in Vietnam, where a loyal dog named Sheba once saved his unit—only to be left behind when his tour ended. When Lanford vanishes one morning, leaving behind a poignant sketch of himself with Sheba and Henry with Bouncer, the moment lingers with quiet weight. Written by Sheila Keenan and illustrated with emotional precision by Nathan Fox, with colors by Rico Renzi and Guy Major, this touching story captures a moment of connection and loss, all rendered with care on a cover by Nathan Fox.

Henry is bored at his new home in a trailer park until he gets a puppy, but Bouncer is so unmanageable that he's constantly causing trouble. A loner Vietnam veteran teaches Henry the basics of dog training, and slowly shares his experiences as a dog handler in Vietnam, where Sheba again and again saved Lanford and his friends. Even so his best friend was killed, and he was forced to leave Sheba behind as "equipment" when his tour was up. One morning Lanford is gone, leaving a sketch of himself with Sheba, and one of Henry with Bouncer.
