Doctor Mid-Nite #2

The second chapter of Matt Wagner and John K. Snyder III's three-part prestige-format series finds Doctor Mid-Nite — his distinctive green-lensed goggles cutting through the murk — standing his ground against a pair of enormous, snarling wolf-like creatures that loom out of the darkness above him, jaws wide and gleaming with jagged teeth. A glowing street lamp beside the hero casts an eerie, fog-diffused light that makes the whole scene feel genuinely unsettling, a perfect showcase for a hero whose power lies in thriving where others can't see. Snyder's painted cover work gives the 1999 prestige format issue a cinematic weight that rewards a long look.
