DMZ #12
DMZ #12 closes out 2006 with a cover that feels more like a photo essay than a traditional comics splash — Brian Wood layers a gritty, yellow-green-tinted cityscape of a war-scarred New York against a grid of Polaroid-style snapshots capturing street signs, subway stations, silhouetted figures, military helicopters, and the quiet texture of a city under siege. The story arc is right there in the title plastered across the cover: "New York Times," written, drawn, and finished entirely by Wood, lending the whole package a singular, documentary intimacy. It's a quietly compelling package from Vertigo that treats its fictional DMZ Manhattan with the same careful attention a photojournalist might give a real conflict zone.
