Dixie Dugan #5

Dixie Dugan and her friends find themselves hemmed in by Native Americans while exploring wilderness property, prompting them to devise a rescue plan involving sneaking up on a "redskin" and tying him to carry him into Dixie's house for interrogation. After a series of comedic mishaps in the cornfield where they mistake natural occurrences for an Indian attack, the fire department arrives to quell what turns out to be an imaginary "Indian-Pioneer" battle in Dixie's backyard. The story concludes with the children returning to school, where their teacher notes that their summer adventure has given them plenty to discuss about early American frontier history.
