The deformed Quasimoto is held in the cathedral of Notre Dame under the control of the evil Judge Frollo, who was forced to raise him after killing his mother. The gypsy Esmerelda accidentally caused Quasimoto to be jeered and abused at the festival and she is pursued by Frollo's guards, ending up in sanctuary in the cathedral. Captain Phoebus defies Frollo and is also on the run.
