Betty and her family live in a mining town; her father is killed in an mine accident when she is 12. Betty grows up hating the Conrads, who own the mine. When her miner boyfriend Joe comes down with a lung disease from his work, Betty vows vengeance on the Conrad family. She seduces son Donald Conrad into marrying her, then tells him she'll never be a true wife and will take his fortune in a divorce settlement. Joe tells Betty this is not the way to obtain justice. Donald says he'll make changes to treat the miners fairly, and he and Betty will be a real married couple from now on.
