Destro #5
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeDestro #5 (of 5) is the capstone of Skybound's four-part G.I. Joe miniseries runway inside the Energon Universe — the shared Hasbro/Skybound continuity that also houses Transformers. As the final issue of the last pre-launch miniseries, it functions as the narrative on-ramp directly into G.I. Joe #1, making it the structural hinge between the villain-centric prologue era and the franchise's ongoing series proper. The issue concludes a five-issue arc that gave Destro the rare treatment of being the moral (if amoral) center of his own story, reframing the classic arms-dealer character as a cunning political operator rather than a cartoon henchman. In doing so, the miniseries — and this finale especially — helped establish Skybound's appetite for darker, more morally complicated G.I. Joe storytelling that distinguished the Energon Universe from every prior iteration of the property.

The Destro miniseries was announced in March 2024 as one of two new G.I. Joe titles (alongside Scarlett) produced by Skybound Entertainment, Image Comics, and Hasbro — rounding out a quartet of villain- and hero-focused five-issue preludes that also included Duke and Cobra Commander. Writer Dan Watters, known for Loki and Universal Monsters: Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!, was paired with artist Andrei Bressan (Dark Ride, Birthright) and colorist Adriano Lucas; Bressan handled every issue except #3, where Cobra Commander series artist Andrea Milana filled in. Issue #5 shipped October 16, 2024, exactly on schedule as the final piece before G.I. Joe #1 launched, and the complete run was collected in trade paperback as Destro Volume 1: The Enemy in December 2024.
