# Desperado #5 (November 1948) This issue contains multiple Western stories under the "Obey the Law" banner. "Sure as Shootin'" features historical vignettes of frontier lawmen including Judge Bannon of Tucson, Scarface Murphy of California, Detective Woodridge of Chicago, and Tom Smith of Abilene, Texas, highlighting their unique approaches to maintaining order. "Bat Slater" tells of a territorial outlaw who declares himself the only law in the hills and kills anyone who enters, only to be forced to leave his stronghold when law enforcement finally catches up with him and restores justice.
