Dennis encounters a girl at a market stand selling mistletoe and learns about the Christmas tradition of kissing under it. An adult man then teaches Dennis about golf by giving him special clubs, but Dennis accidentally uses them as hockey sticks instead. In a separate story, Jimmy and his father follow directions left by an old miner to find buried gold in the desert, using a watch as a timing device to locate the treasure at the foot of a Joshua tree.

Dennis has a talent for misunderstanding his father's instructions—this time during a Christmas tree shopping expedition that goes hilariously awry. When Henry Mitchell takes his son to pick out the perfect tree, Dennis manages to create chaos at every turn, from his literal interpretation of "two dollars a foot" to his well-intentioned but disastrous attempt to "trim" the tree once they get it home. It's a holiday mishap that proves some lessons are better learned the hard way, especially when Dennis is involved.

Dennis Mitchell gets a hockey stick from his dad and heads to the frozen lake for his first lesson in the game—but his confusion about the rules and a few misunderstandings about what "goalie" actually means leads to plenty of rough-and-tumble chaos on the ice. It's all stick-swinging, puck-chasing mayhem as Dennis discovers that hockey is decidedly messier than the golf-on-ice he'd imagined.

Dennis MitchellJoey McDonald

Dennis explains the seasons to his pal Joey by connecting each name to what happens during that time of year—leaves fall in autumn, hockey players win in winter, new growth springs forth in spring, and summer brings its own surprises. It's a charmingly silly lesson in seasonal wordplay that only Dennis could deliver with such confidence.
