Dennis the Menace #40
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis issue contains two stories. The main story follows Dennis the Menace as he causes chaos around his house while his mother is sleeping, creating a series of mischievous situations with household items. "A Grampa Story" features Dennis's grandfather recounting his experience during an extremely cold winter at the South Pole, where he and his companions had to give antifreeze to sled dogs to keep them from freezing, with the tale humorously contrasted against the mild cold Dennis complains about outside.
Dennis accidentally hides his neighbor's turkey in the Wilson house to keep it safe from a hatchet, setting off a chaotic chain of misunderstandings when Mr. Wilson discovers the bird in his attic. The mix-up spirals into confusion and commotion as Dennis tries to protect his feathered friend while his father scrambles to explain the situation.
Dennis's father gives his mother a pair of ear plugs to help her sleep through his snoring, but when she wears them the next morning, she sleeps straight through all the chaos Dennis and his friends create around the house—complete with crashing dishes, toy gun battles, and rambunctious play. Just when Mrs. Wade calls to speak with Dennis's mother, he accidentally ruins the perfectly quiet morning she's enjoyed, forcing her to finally take the ear plugs out and send the boys outside.
Dennis thinks he's a bridge expert after learning "London Bridge" in nursery school, and he's determined to show off his skills—or at least his idea of them—when his mom hosts a bridge party for the ladies. What follows is a series of misunderstandings as the mischievous boy tries to "help" with the card game, turning a quiet afternoon into pure chaos.
When two babysitters decide to throw a jazz session in Dennis's pad, the mischievous kid takes their wild talk about "licorice sticks" and "cool cats" a little too literally—with hilariously chaotic results. As Dennis tries to keep up with the hip lingo and prove he's not from "Squares-ville," his innocent misunderstandings transform an afternoon of bebop into complete pandemonium.
