☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis issue is an anthology containing multiple stories. "Lefty" follows Jim Fonda, a high school baseball player, as he pitches in a practice game and throws a beautiful curve ball that impresses everyone, but his teammate Bill Cram, a poor sport, quits the team in frustration and later makes trouble by reporting Jim to the school superintendent. A coloring activity page features Dennis and an adult with paint supplies. Additionally, the issue includes an illustrated map of Arizona and the southwestern United States with Dennis depicted as a construction worker at the Grand Canyon.
Dennis dreams up a get-rich-quick scheme after hearing that a better mousetrap will make the world beat a path to your door—so he and his pal Tommy set out to invent something that'll sell. What follows is a hilarious string of failed contraptions, from a ridiculous pipe-based mousetrap to a shoe-cleaning device that lands Dennis's dad in hot water (literally), all in pursuit of the fortune that keeps slipping through their fingers.
Dennis finds an old, moth-eaten tiger skin that his neighbors are throwing out and decides it's perfect for a backyard tiger hunt with his dog—but the stuffed pelt causes a hilarious chain reaction when the adults mistake it for the real thing. As police arrive and chaos erupts in Mrs. Wilson's garden, Dennis's innocent game spirals into complete mayhem that leaves everyone convinced they're dealing with an actual tiger.
When a neighbor girl warns Joey away from Dennis by insisting that real gentlemen are polite and clean, Joey decides to give the menace a piece of his mind—only to have Dennis turn the tables by using her own ideas against her in the most outrageous way possible. Watch as Margaret learns that trying to reform Dennis might just backfire spectacularly.
When Dennis's mom insists he learn proper grammar instead of his usual chatty ways, a visit from the neighborhood gossip gives him plenty of material to mock—especially when she fills the house with endless stories about her daughter, her son-in-law, and all their quirky habits. Dennis's running commentary on Mrs. Ames's never-ending chatter proves his point about grown-ups and their love of yakking, while his little friend Joey gets a geography lesson he won't soon forget.
Dennis decides to find a nice lady to make him breakfast, but when his mom calls him back, he reveals his clever solution—she's the nice lady he had in mind all along.
