The second story, "Tim's Boat," depicts a boy named Tim who rescues his friend Steve after Steve falls through thin ice on a frozen lake, using a life ring and rope to pull Steve to safety before getting him to shore and into a waiting car for help.
Dennis Mitchell is convinced he should go swimming at the beach in winter, and when his father Henry takes him to prove nobody actually swims in freezing weather, they discover the local Polar Bear Club—hardy swimmers who do exactly that. Dennis is determined to join, and his attempts to get his reluctant dad into the water lead to a chilly misadventure that changes Henry's mind about winter fun.
