- First comic book appearance of Fred Flintstone, Wilma Flintstone, Barney Rubble, Betty Rubble, and Dino, in the 84-page story titled 'Bedrock Bedlam.'
- Written by Michael Maltese and Warren Foster — the same animation writers central to the television series — grounding the debut issue in the show's authentic creative voice.
- Primary art by Harvey Eisenberg, the animator-turned-comics artist dubbed 'the Carl Barks of Hanna-Barbera comics,' who brought his MGM/Hanna-Barbera layout background to the page; Pete Alvarado contributed additional pencil work.
- The issue introduced Perry Gunnite, a comics-original character who parodies TV detective Peter Gunn; Gunnite went on to appear as a recurring backup strip across the subsequent Dell/Gold Key Flintstones series.
- Also contains a first appearance of Pebble Bleach (a comics-exclusive supporting character) and includes a black-and-white inside-front-cover feature titled 'Meet the Flintstones,' as well as a publicity photo spread of Bill Hanna, Joe Barbera, Warren Foster, and Michael Maltese.
- Dell's split with Western Publishing in 1962 led to Gold Key Comics inheriting the license; Gold Key published 54 subsequent issues, followed by runs at Charlton, Marvel, Harvey, Archie, and DC — all of which trace their lineage back to this issue.
